Hey. I really like this idea. I didn't pay as much as I probably should because I'm low on funds at the moment but I will pay you the full amount whenever I can. :)
Thank you! I regret not making it even easier to use with Anki, and will likely create a deck to add in with the pack. Future reading packs will certainly include such a deck.
It's really motivating me, as this will be the first manga I've ever read. I already did about 5 pages.Such a helpful vocab list and "helper pack" for manga doesn't exist before, and frankly this is a nice break from pre-made Core 2K which I'm not that far in yet.
It's a great idea making this available for Yotsubato! especially so you can add vocab to Anki so easily. Though with 66 pages of vocabularly it's gonna be no small feat to work your way through!
I'm going to make an Anki deck with all of the vocab in it for the pack, so that should make it even easier. Then you have the option to add it all or pick and choose from the list.
I was very excited to see this post. I started reading manga as an exercise in my Japanese about a year ago and I'm so glad I choose よつばと!. I now own the first and second volume. It reminds me a little of Calvin and Hobbes in her silliness. Anyway, I look forward to purchasing your reading pack to make sure I understood what I read.
Question: Does the reading pack cover the entirety of volume 1? And secondly, do you plan on doing a reading pack for volume 2?
Thanks again for sharing this with everyone. Have a great day.
Ah, I'd not made the connection to Calvin and Hobbes, but it's definitely got the same appeal. No wonder I enjoy this manga so much!
Yes, it covers all of the first volume. At this time I am trying to decide on what the next reading pack will cover, and so far I've heard votes for the second volume. It's becoming increasingly likely that the second reading pack will cover the second volume of Yotsubato!
I am sorry I cannot pay anything for this. Because it is such a wonderful idea. I had previously looked over manga and decided Yatsuba looked like a very easy read. I even own a copy I bought back then.
But I have only recently decided to get serious with learning japanese.
Don't sweat it. Yotsubato! is definitely a great manga to start reading with, but it's also just plain fun to read. Try not to get too bogged down with studying. Remember to enjoy the journey. Good luck!
Bought them both and so far I'm pretty pleased. One thing however. I wish there was more tagging. Tagging can be extremely powerful for breaking down these kinds of deck. You could break it down by CHapter, By Page, Even Individual frames, or, if you really wanted to be excessive, individual speak bubbles as well.
You could break it down by grammar points, you could break it down by frequency, you could break it down by character, you could do so much to make this even more powerful.
Obviously some of these would probably be too much work, but I think better utilisation of tags would be my only complaint about the decks, I would have liked more comprehensive use of tags.

ReplyDeleteI hope it helps; have fun reading!
DeleteJust downloaded this, looks to be good quality so far, especially when it's designed to be Anki friendly.

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteI haven't decided if the next reading pack will continue with Yotsubato! or introduce a new series, but I'll keep you guys informed as it develops.
New reader here. Thank you for this!

Please make more in the future!
I'm really glad to hear that it's helping! It's impossible to quit once you get a real taste of using Japanese and not just memorizing it. Congrats!
DeleteI'll definitely be making more reading packs.

So if we already have the pack, how do we get the Anki deck?
ReplyDeleteThanks!

ReplyDeleteYes I am! You can leave a comment on this page or here to suggest the title for the next reading pack.
DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteJust payed the tiny price of 2 bucks for this, though I'll "buy it again" at full price as soon as I get some more.
Many thanks for your work!
Hope you enjoy it!
DeleteHow to use this? I'm really curious.

Thanks, man, you're god. I just wish I had the money to build you a temple.
ReplyDeleteNice work, much appreciated!
