Manga Introduction: ポンチョ

Title: ポンチョ
Author: 高島 ひろみ (Takashima Hiromi
Difficulty: 3/5 (1 easy, 5 hard)
Furigana: No
Format: 4コマ漫画 (4-koma Manga

ポンチョ is primarily a slice of life manga.

This manga is largely about the days that a young lad named Hiroshi spends with his girlfriend...'s little sister Pon. This series is quite cute and funny, mainly because Pon is such an interesting and weird little girl. The basic setup of each chapter is that Hiroshi tries to do something to spend time with his girlfriend, Nanami, but somehow always ends up hanging out with her 8 year old sister (and her cat Tomekichi) instead. Despite the fact that the main character essentially fails at what he attempts to achieve every chapter, it's a very light-hearted and comical series.

The artwork in the series has an interesting scribbled sort of feel to it, and most panels focus on the facial expressions of the characters. The drawings can be both cute and funny, with the expressions of the characters really selling a lot of the jokes.

To sum things up, this series is yet another simple slice-of-life story that is great for just sitting back and relaxing with.

  1. Going to check this out tomorrow. The only 4koma I have on my shelf are some Hidamari Sketch volumes.

A cute slice of life like this seems right up my alley, so I'm definitely going to pick it up. I already like a few of the other suggestions you gave (the ones I haven't already read myself).
